1: Lacustrine core which had been stored, covered with plastic film. Though the film was removed, the fine-grained sediment retained the glossy texture which produced reflective surfaces. These reflections were completely removed with the polarising filters. Pixel size is 50 microns.
2. Organic-rich core with a wet, textured surface, immediately after splitting. Once the specular reflections were removed by the polarising filters, the sedimentary layers were apparent. Pixel size is 50 microns.
