New Relationship with Core Specialist Services

Geotek Ltd and Core Specialist Services (CSS) are pleased to be announcing a new relationship where both companies will provide X-ray CT services for the Oil and Gas market in Aberdeen, Scotland. The relationship will use Geotek’s experience in designing and using X-ray CT systems and Core Specialist Services’s consultancy knowledge in the planning, design and management of core based studies. To enable work to be conducted in Aberdeen Geotek will install a XCT system at the CSS premises in Aberdeen and will train the experienced CSS staff to use the system, and help provide the services.

The XCT system will be capable of acquiring both 2D and 3D X-ray CT datasets from whole core in aluminium liner, as well as sidewall cores and core plugs at resolutions between 40 microns and 400 microns. Resolutions vary depending on the core size and more importantly are flexible depending on project requirements. The implementation of the XCT into the Scottish Oil and Gas market will be the first geological-focussed X-ray CT system for this geoscience market. The provision of X-ray CT services build on Geotek’s and CSS’s wealth of experience in core analysis, and we look forward to collaborating our services in future projects. Customers will be able to utilise these services from March 2018.

James Shreeve (Geotek’s Sales and Services Manager) says: “The relationship between CSS and Geotek has been developing over the last few years, and we have conducted a few commercial and demonstration projects together in the past for the Oil and Gas Market. The decision to install a Geotek XCT system in Aberdeen with CSS is the next step of this relationship and we are looking forward to working with the team in Aberdeen by adding our experience in non-destructive core analysis with their own.”

CSS was founded in 2010 by Craig Lindsay – a former President of the Society of Core Analysts (2012-13). Craig commented “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Geotek’s X-Ray CT system and to provide dedicated core scanning service to our local market. This is the very first time a CT scanner designed specifically for core has been available in Aberdeen. We very much look forward to working with the Geotek team and the local core analysis community to offer these services”.
