Near-Infrared/Visible Spectrophotometry

Near-infrared spectroscopy has come to the Geotek core loggers with the integration of ASD's LabSpec Vis/NIR spectrophotometer.

The LabSpec is the equivalent of the better-known TerraSpec, and can be integrated onto any system with a split-core sensor arm, which include the MSCL-S, MSCL-XZ, and MSCL-XYZ. A high-intensity contact probe is used with the LabSpec to collect reflectance spectra from the split-core surface and send them to the MSCL software. From there, the spectra can be exported and analyzed to get mineral composition with packages such as CSIRO's Spectral Geologist.
