Université du Québec à Rimouski MSCL-XCT Installation

Peter & Melanie installed an MSCL-XCT for Professor Guillaume St-Onge at the Université du Québec à Rimouski. This versatile system allows full computed tomographic reconstructions to be created from cores (as well as linear 2D radiographs) but does not require any special facilities. The MSCL-XCT is cabinet-safe instrument that can be used in a normal mixed-use laboratory. This is very different to a medical or many large industrial X-ray CT instruments which require their own shielded rooms for operation. Prof. St-Onge and colleagues will use the XCT to complement data from MSCL-S #68 on marine piston cores, hand-collected marsh cores, and other plastic-lined sediment cores.
