New 2-D and 3-D X-ray core imaging (MSCL-XCT)

Why use a medical scanner, designed for people, on cores? Geotek’s first dedicated X-ray core imaging system, the MSCL-XCT, has been installed at Scripps Institute of Oceanography. [View X-ray examples]

This versatile "cabinet safe" instrument can be used to image whole round cores on a routine basis with resolutions far exceeding those available from medical CT scanners and without the need for a large dedicated shielded room. Whole cores can be imaged in detail providing real time images, 2-D static images, and rotational movies from 2-D images. The same mechanics are used to collect data sets for full 3-D computed tomographic (CT) reconstruction; CT-capable software is available as an upgrade. Please visit the X-ray examples for images and movies collected with the MSCL-XCT.
