Maintenance visit to OGS Trieste

On the 7th May John visited Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale (OGS) in Trieste, to perform a maintenance check on their standard logging system, MSCL-S #36.

The logger is fitted with sensors to measure the magnetic susceptibility, gamma density and p-wave velocity of sediment cores. John performed calibration checks on all these sensors and upgraded the MSCL software to ensure the most accurate and efficient use of the system continues.

Over the last 10 years the system has been used to help understand the geophysical and sedimentological properties of cores from the polar regions, particularly from Antarctica.
