Chikyu Installation
On the 17th March Peter and John arrived on the Japanese drillship Chikyu. During their week long visit they performed various upgrades to Geotek equipment already on board the vessel, and installed new equipment and trained Marine Works Japan staff in its use.
The upgrades included the addition of a natural gamma system to the MSCL-S used for logging split cores, and a Geoscan linescan imaging system for use on the MSCL-XYZ.
Training was provided to the operators to ensure the safe and effective use of this equipment. Three new PCs were also installed to run the loggers, with upgrades allowing for faster data processing and increased storage capacity. Various spare cables, sensors and other logger parts were also supplied.
Training was provided for the use of a new piece of specialised equipment designed for the measurement of P-wave velocity through discrete core samples.
