Norwegian Geological Survey receives stretch MSCL-S

16th December 2011

The Norges Geologiske Undersøkelse (Norwegian Geological Survey) has received an extra-long MSCL-S. Peter and Melanie went to Trondheim in December to install the 'stretched' MSCL-S, which will take core sections up to 208cm long. Two people are required to load the heavy 11cm-diameter, 2-meter-long core sections onto the MSCL-S! This system has gamma density and magnetic susceptibility sensors together with the Geoscan linescan imaging system (leaving plenty of room for upgrades). Dr. Jochen Knies and colleagues at the NGU will use the MSCL-S on local sediments (lake, fjord, and shelf), as well as on rock cores (Norway has a lot of rock...)

Jochen, Martin, and Ivo with Peter... happy smiling (if a bit blurry) customers!

MSCL-S for CIUDEN in León, Spain

16th December 2011

CIUDEN, a Spanish government laboratory (Fundación Ciudad de la Energía), has received a Geotek MSCL-S in cooperation with our Spanish agent, Grafinta. John installed the MSCL-S in December (a nice time to be in Spain!) This core logger is configured for rock cores, with sensors for gamma density and magnetic susceptibility, and reciprocating P-wave transducers. Dr. Timea Kovacs at CIUDEN will use the MSCL-S to characterize core from a potential CO2 storage reservoir, with the first cores arriving later this year.

MSCL logging offshore for Petrobras in cooperation with Fugro

8th December 2011

Geotek personnel offshore Brazil are using the Geotek MSCL-S to analyze Jumbo Piston Cores being taken by Fugro-McClelland Marine Geosciences. They are working onboard the Drilling Vessel Fugro Explorer, which is on a two-year mission to perform geotechnical investigations for Petrobras.
